Misha Black was a British industrial and graphic designer who achieved significant success in the mid-twentieth century. Born in Azerbaijan in 1910, Black studied architecture at the Architectural Association in London before turning his attention to design. He was a pioneer of what we now call industrial design and helped to promote the concept as a profession in its own right. He had a distinguished career, creating iconic products such as the Black Taxi Cab and the London Transport Routemaster bus. He was recognized for his achievements with numerous design awards, including an OBE in 1972 and a CBE in 1985. Misha Black was also an influential educator, teaching at the Royal College of Art and serving as President of the Design and Industries Association.
